‘The Submariner’s Prayer’ O Father, hear our prayer to Thee For your humble servants, beneath the sea In the depths of oceans, as oft they stray So far from night, so far from day We would ask your Guiding Light to glow To make their journey safe below Please oft times grant them patient mind Then ‘ere the darkness won’t them blind They seek thy protection from the deep, Please grant them peace when ‘ere they sleep Of their homes and loved ones far away We ask you care for them each day Until they surface once again To drink the air and feel the rain We ask your guiding hand to show A safe progression sure and slow Dear Lord, please hear our prayer to thee For your humble servants beneath the sea.

Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea, But such a tide as moving seems asleep, Too full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out the boundless deep Turns again home. Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark; For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crost the bar.

I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
